Long-cooked Broccoli

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs broccoli
- 6 tablespoons olive oil
- 6 garlic cloves, sliced
- 1 pinch dried red pepper flakes
- salt
- 1 cup water
- 1 lemon, juiced
Recipe
- 1 cut the florets off of the broccoli and chop into fairly small pieces.
- 2 peel the stem and remove the hard, dry end. cut the stem into thin slices.
- 3 heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat.
- 4 add broccoli, garlic, chile flakes, and salt.
- 5 cook for a few minutes.
- 6 add water and bring to a boil.
- 7 reduce to a simmer. cover and cook for about 1 hour, until very tender.
- 8 stir briskly, causing the broccoli to break apart.
- 9 add the lemon juice (and more salt or oil if necessary).
